The Scribola, was a portable printing chain adding machine, manufactured by Ruthard & Co. in Stuttgart in around 1922.  Using a stylus numbers can be entered by pulling from the corresponding link in the relevant chain down to the bottom. Amounts can be printed using the lever on the right. Totals can be printed using the lever on the left which disengages the calculating mechanism. The machine can be reset to zero using the 'arresting lever' and then the zero-position lever on the right.
