At the request of readers I have added this section to provide news of major additions to the site.
- 2015 July 21. ~1952 O.J. Adder by Holman Engineering works was added to the website. A rare surviving example of this pounds, shillings and pence sterling adding machine with clock dial read out in units of 10 pounds.
- 2015 June 23. 1889 model Web Adder serial 3220 was added to the website showing the evolution in design, materials and functionality over the 20 years now elapsed from the original 1869 model Web Patent Adder and Talley Board.
- 2014 December 25. Alpina minituarised step-calculator, serial 5944, 1961 and Quixsum, model C, ~1930, imperial feet, inches and fractions adding machine were both added to the website. Yes - happy Xmas to me!
- 2014 December 4. Facit LX pinwheel calculator, serial 105478, 1950, the dead ringer of the Facit calculator loaned to the site author when he was a small boy and which laid the seed for this collection, was added to the website.
- 2014 October 27. Pietr Holm’s Tobacco Box for calculating Ship’s speed and perpetual calendar, 1793 was added to the website.
- 2014 October 14. L. Brooks’ Circular Simple and Compound Interest Table reckoner, 1849 was added to the website.
- 2014 October 14. J.B. Morill’s cylindrical multiplication reckoner, 1856 was added to the website.
- 2014 July. Hewlett Packard HP-65 programmable calculator, 1973 was added to the site to complete the set of these calculators marking “the vanishing point” for mechanical calculators. With the arrival of this magnetic card programmable pocket calculator with its array of scientific functions, all that had come before was gaslight!
- 2014 July 11. Kuli Calculator, ~1905 was added to the website with corresponding additions to the text of the Late Modern Era.
- 2014 June 13. The Standard Desk Calcumeter, 1908-15 was added to the website.
- 2014 May 27. The Adder, 1908 was added to the collection, and in honour of this and recent arrival also of the earlier Centigraph and Spalding machines a new section of the text “Early keyboard adding machines” was created.
- 2014 May 16. Article by G. Mareschal on the Centigraph, La Nature, 1893. added to the website.
- 2014 May 12. Ancient Roman bronze astragali (knucklebones) from 100-200 AD added to collection with some notes on their role in the history of calculation.
- 2014 May 5. Three Ancient Roman dice from 000-300 AD added to the collection with some notes on their role in the history of calculation.
- 2014 April 15. Additions to the e-Library (including suggestions from Walter Szrek)
- 2014 April 14. Change of domain to http://things-that-count.net. Was forced by some security concerns to change the site domain from http://things-that-count.com to http://things-that-count.net. The .com address will remain active with a redirection page. Book and cover revised to accommodate new domain.
