Have done some background on the Pirani history..  Most likely the Pirani name originated from the town of ‘Piran’  in Slovenia immediately south of Trieste. This town on the coast of the Adriatic Sea is said to have been a very old coastal village and base of some pirate activity in its early history. I have been informed that persons from that town were known as Pirani  Pironi and numerous other variants.
The name Pirani is common even today in that village.  I had observed the Pirani name associated with persons of Muslim heritage, not an all uncommon name in Jeddah ( several Pirani names listed in the local Saudia telephone directory when I was there)
