Fritz Schiffer was born ion 18th December 1871 in Beuthen, Ober Schles. His father was Moritz a trader (Kaufmann) whose sister Emillie, married Louis Cassirer and by all accounts, they were a close-knit family. We have no information regarding his mother.
He attended the Konigliche Willielms-Gymnasium in Berlin and then studied Medicine in Berlin and Munich qualifying in 1898 and practiced as a paediatrician. In the Summer of 1898 he began his military service in the Queen Elizabeth Grenadier Guards, Regiment no 3 in Charlottenburg,
serving during the war, but was very ill with heart disease.
It is a known fact that this family did not adhere to any Jewish traditions at all although none of them were ever baptised which was not unusual in emancipated circles.
He married Else nee Knopf and together they had two sons, Hans and Peter.
He practiced as a paediatrician in Berlin until his death from a heart attack in 1921 and is buried in the Weissensee Cemetery in Berlin
