Notes for Elizabeth SOLOMON
The passenger list for the Britomart which arrived in Sydney 1.2.1835 shows her as age 15, making the year of her birth as 1820.
Terry Newman has information regarding her death from SMH Wed 18 Oct 1854 'at the residence of her father and mother Elizabeth Street on Monday 16 Oct after a severe and protracted illness Mrs E Zadoc the eldest daughter of Mr Samuel Solomon deeply regretted by all who knew her.
The only possible marriage that I can find is a Hebrew marriage between Coleman Zadak and Elizabeth Solomon in 1840. (Ref Vol 1840 029135).
That Coleman is the correct husband is now confirmed due to information from the AJHS cd of the graves in the Old Section of Rookwood Cemetery. Coleman and Elizabeth are in a double grave (Section A, Row 2).
The headstone reads 'Sacred to the memory of Elizabeth, daughter of Samuel Solomon and wife of Coleman Zadoc who departed this life on Monday 16th October AM 5615, aged 33 years. The transcription of the hebrew is 'Here lies Bayla daughter of Shmuel, wife of Coleman. Died on 24 Tishri and buried on... at the age of 33. May her soul be bound in the bond of eternal life.'
Although I am showing Elizabeth and her husband as being buried at Rookwood, they were originally buried in the Devonshire Street Cemetery and when it was decided to remove all the graves from there to Rookwood, Mrs Sarah Cohen, Elizabeth's sister was issued with the exhumation permit. The dates of death and burial relate to her original burial.
