Gary Stucka (cellist in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra since 1986) purchased this Mark Xa about 1997 from Raymond Glaspole of Oxford, England.

Gary Stucka describes his search and eventual acquisition of this lovely machine this way: “After hearing Raymond’s EMG, I requested (pleaded, actually) that he find one for me and he DID about a year and a half later! Will and I have searched in vain for a serial number on this machine. I do remember Raymond informing me that “the machine was found in a London banker’s home where it had been in the same spot since 1930.” I believe that it came as part of a recordings purchase that Raymond had made for his 78rpm record mail-order business. This machine had a 4 month journey to the USA aboard a freighter! I continue to marvel at how wonderful this machine sounds!”
