Notes for Benjamin Samuel HART
Birth - St Catherine's House London Vol 2, page 232. Certificate held.
There is no record of a marriage or any children.
Information regarding the place of Benjamin's death originally came to me from Dr Klee Benveniste, the Honorary Archivist of the Adelaide Hebrew Congregation Inc. in 2000. Registration Book 322, page 282.
Although his certificate of death shows his usual residence as Hindley Street, Adelaide,Boothby's Directories for Adelaide from 1878 to 1891 list him as a Gardener and living at Stirling East. From 1892 until 1902 his address is Janet Street, Maylands, but no occupation is shown for this address. There were no entries after 1902. Possibly at this period he moved into lodgings in Hindley Street. Although I might have missed it I did not find him on any electoral rolls.
The certificate of death relates that he had suffered from Pulmonary disease and cardiac failure for one year. The Adelaide Advertiser of 27th December 1906 lists his death: 'Hart On 25th December at Adelaide, Benjamin son of the late Samuel Hart aged 64 years.'
Benjamin's death is listed in a book 'Deaths in Public Institutions', number 4 in the SA Record Series. Also in 'Coroner's Reports' being number 2 of the same series. Enquiries will be made to the author of these books for more details.
There is no mention of other family, although this is not a question asked on the SA Death certificates. The monument over his grave shows his name as Benjamin Samuel Hart.
