The Commonwealth War Graves Commission lists him as Second Lieutenant Lance Will Lewis, 7th Bn, King's Royal Rifle Corps, Attd. Machine Gun Corps (Inf), who died aged 24, on Wednesday 9 August 1916. He was B.A., Oxford. NS Cohen believes that he was born in 1889, but if the War Grave is correct it should be 1892.

Serving with The Kings Royal Rifle Corp, attached to the Machine GunCorp Infantry 7th Battalion, and was killed in action on the 9thAugust on the Somme Battlefield, buried at Guillemont Road Cemetery,Guillemont, Area Vll.M.7 Somme, France. aged 24yrs.
