(:title 1950: Facit LX pinwheel calculator, serial 105478:) %center% http://meta-studies.net/pmwiki/uploads/FacitLX.jpg The Facit LX pinwheel calculator represented a step forward in design, with keyboard input, its 19 digit working register, and a movable quotient register and accumulator this machine was created for serious arithmetic work. It was produced from 1938 to 1954. The serial number of this machine places its production as 1950. For me (Jim Falk - the site editor) this machine has particular sentimental importance. It is the same model Facit calculator that I was lent as a 13 year old boy from an academic at Melbourne University to assist me in performing the many statistical calculations that I needed to complete my project "Pilot Experiments in Memory" for the Science Talent Search, which I submitted a year later in 1960. After a year of this machine helping me on hundreds of calculations, it gained a special place in my heart. When I saw a Facit calculator advertised on ebay (not this one, which came a few years later in December 2014, but the [[Site.Facit1945|Facit Model S pinwheel calculator]] elsewhere in this collection), I felt I had to get it. And also that was the beginning of this collection. %center% http://meta-studies.net/pmwiki/uploads/Facit_1961_JF.gif
