The Alpina was, the ultimately unsuccessful competitor to the Curta calculators.  Both Alpina and Curta were miniaturised step-drum machines but the detail of how that was achieved differed and the Curta was the more elegant solution, able to be reduced in size even further than the Alpina.  

This Alpina is in excellent condition and was previously held in the Dunottar Collection.
