Miriam recalls: “I  know  that  my mother  Johanna (Hanni)   always  told  me  how  well  respected our  family  was  in  Germany. When  we  were  in  Hawaii  together we  met  a  gentleman  who  was  rather  elderly  and  since  I recognized  they  both  had  German  accents  I  got  them  together  to talk......well  the  gentleman  almost  had  a  heartattack  when  he found  out  that  my  mother  was  ”Frau“  Cassirer!!  He  kissed  her hand  and  tried  to  kneel  before  her!!  It  turned  out  he  had worked at  a  factory  of  the  Cassirer  family!!  (probably  their  paper factory).  It  was  qite  a  lesson  to  me  as to  what  the  name Cassirer  had  meant  at  one  time!!”

			“When my  father  (Rudolph)  and  his  first  wife  were  married  they  were sadly  unable  to  have  children....but  my  mother  and  his  first wife met  one  year  after  my  father  and  mother  had  married.  Each woman  was  pushing  a  baby  carriage!! ”
