Ernest John practised as a solicitor with the firm Maddocks Cohen and Maguire in Sydney. He lived at Castle Hill for many years while his and Ita’s children were growing up. They later moved to Agnes Banks on the banks of the Nepean River where he had more room for his race horses.508
Ernest John died at Newcastle Horse Races in 1977, at the time he wasliving at "Tyreel" a horse stud on the boarder between Penrith and Windsor, now owned by James Fleming of Fleming Store fame.
