In November 1933 at the age of 14 years, whilst canoeing at HaslemsCreek[In the grounds of Rookwood Cemetery] Douglas was shot accidentlyby a seventnn year old boy, the bullet lodging in loose flesh near hisspine, due to the fact of the closeness to the spine itself the bulletwas not removed. Douglas John died as a result of an accident on the4th December 1944, one month after being discharged from te Army 2/17Btl. 7th Division wand was buried at Rookwood Catholic Cemetery.
