Notes for Charles COHEN
In the 1841 census he is living with his parents in Lower Marsh, age shown as 8 years and born in the county. Similarly in the census of 1851 when his age was shown as 17. No further information has been found regarding his life, or for that matter his death or marriage. It is presumed that he died unmarried.
He is, however, mentioned in the will of his brother David Cohen as a beneficiary without any clue as to
where he might be living. He was to receive an annuity of 250 pounds per annum. He requested that in the event of his estate not being sufficient to meet this annuity, his brother Abraham contribute to this annuity .. as he 'considered that he (Abraham) had a moral obligation to do so."
In the 'Jewish Victorian' (being extracts from The JewishChronicle) there is a possible marriage to a Fanny Marks - 8 Sept 1874 at Doughty Hall, Bedford Row by Rev Dr Adler assisted by Revs M Hast and M Keizer, daughter of Mrs Marks, 128 Kennington Park Rd to Charles Cohen of 11 & 12 Monkwell Street, EC.
