Franziska Steinitz and her brother Paul moved to Freiburg hoping to escape persecution in Rosenberg, Oberschlesien. From there they were deported to Gurs, a concentration camp in France. They had both been vegetarians on ethical grounds, and because some of the food in the camp might have contained meat or fish they starved even quicker than some others, and then died.
