Notes for Janet Anna SHARP
David Lloyd Thomas recounts: “Janet went to visit Sam, her younger brother who was a black sheep in the family, to see he was alright. After she had assured herself of this, she was due to catch the ship back to England from Sydney but arrived at the dock after the gang planks for the passengers had been taken away. However the ship was still tied up at the wharf and there was a gangplank to a doorway low down on the hull of the ship to allow late deliveries of mail etc, whic was still in place. So, she was allowed to board the ship by that means, and upon entering the ship the Chief Engineer (Mr John Henry Boehme) took her hand and helped her though the engine room past all the pistoning mechanisms. Following this introduction and a long sea voyage, in due course the two of them married.”
