Notes for Glen Raymond PIRANI
Educated at Haileybury College, on leaving school in 1959 joined channel 9 in Melbourne hopeful of becoming a journalist in the news department. Found that the film side more interesting so spent about 5 years as a film editor /cine cameraman with Channel nine news. Joined ABC television at Ripponlea in 1965 as film editor. 1967 found me as a corporate pilot flying for King Ranch Pastoral Company then owners of Brunette Downs, Mount House station in WA plus numerous smaller holdings. Joined Trans Australia Airlines in 1970 and resigned in 1989 during the airline dispute of that year.
Flew for Saudi Arabian airlines based in Jeddah until the outbreak of the Gulf War.
1993 contracted to the Sultanate of Oman to assist in the formation of their first international airline “Oman Air”. Involved in establishing their initial air route structure training local pilots as well as flying line operations. After several years with the airline well established my contract complete I flew for a freight charter operations based in Zurich Retired in the late 1990’s but was encouraged to take one more contract flying for Air Nauru for about 18 months finally retiring in 2000.
