Email from Peter Hansen,  ggg grand son of Asher Hart , whose daughter Mary married  Joseph Cohen MHA  on the 2/10/1850 in Sydney:213

Asher Hart was born in Rosemary Lane  in London in 1786 . His parents were Leizer/Lazarus Hart and Rachel Hart. Lazarus was born in 1743 and died 20/1/1800. Rachel was born in 1752 and died 17/9/1818.

He had at least  five siblings , Elizabeth b 1770, John b 13/2/1789, Abraham b 1801, Benjamin and Jane.. The family was involved in the used clothing trade. Asher married  Phoebe Moses in the the New Synagogue in London in 1808.

He arrived in Melbourne around 1840, but by  1841 he had moved to Sydney, where he had a house and shop in George St. He died in Sydney on 6/2/1860 at 243 Castlereagh St. Phoebe died there  on 2/3/1864. Between 1845 and 1847 he was a stall holder at the  York St
Synagogue. These are his children.

Lazarus Hart b Portsmouth  . 1810  Came to Austral as a convict on the SS York 7/2/1830. Drowned in Mrrumbidgee River in 1851. Convicted for theft from a  Lewis Cohen in Rosemary Lane.
Goodman b 1811 Portsmouth UK  Also a convict he arrived on the Emperor Alexander in 1833. He died 2/4/1874 in Adelaide.
Henry  b26/6/1816 Portsmouth d 8/2/1884 in Sydney . Built Royal Hotel in Yass NSW.
